A guide to life in Subud as a new member
If you’re considering joining our community as a new Subud member, you may find it useful to know about some of the opportunities available. It’s not just about participating in your local group or practicing at home. We also have special spiritual events, national and internationalworld congresses, and a wide range of activities such as humanitarian projects, family gatherings, and cultural programs. These experiences help you connect with a broader Subud community and engage in meaningful exploration and spiritual growth
Participating at the Local Subud Group
Joining Subud allows a new member to participate in the local group’s Latihan sessions, typically held twice a week. Additionally, they are not limited to just the local group; they are welcome to visit any of our Subud groups across the country or even globally. Depending on the size of the local group, there may also be social gatherings to participate in.
Benefiting from the Subud practice in daily life
Once a new member becomes familiar with the Subud practice, they often find it beneficial to occasionally engage in the practice alone. This can have a different quality than group sessions, free of distractions and a time of one’s choosing. It can also be helpful at times of stress or seeking inner guidance for a specific problem.
Spiritual exploration through communal gatherings
Groups and regions occasionally host special events where all Subud members are invited to gather for spiritual exploration and self-discovery. These events generally begin with our spiritual practice and then transition into deeper exploration using the inner guidance that arises from the practice. Typical things we may explore could be issues like understanding our true inner nature or testing our progress on the spiritual journey. These gatherings often last several hours, mixing socializing with meaningful discussions, creating a space where we can all connect on both the spiritual and personal level.
Engaging in one’s religious community
Upon joining Subud, there’s no need to cease attending your religious community, whether it’s a synagogue, mosque, or church. In fact, members frequently share that the inner guidance gained from the Subud practice enhances their understanding of their religion, making it a more vibrant and tangible part of their lives.
